Quaker faith & practice is the core publication of Britain Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends. It is an attempt to express Truth through the vital personal and corporate experience of Friends. It is largely composed of extracts from Friends' writings: a fitting way of expressing the breadth of Quaker theology. It also describes the current structures (church government) of Britain Yearly Meeting.
Quaker faith & practice: the book of Christian discipline of the Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in Britain was approved by Yearly Meeting 1994.
This text is drawn from the fourth edition, with revisions and corrections approved 1995-2008.
Also available for download are the revised chapters 14 & 15 of Quaker faith & practice [PDF: 120KB - new window] as approved by minute 23c of Britain Yearly Meeting held 28-31 May 2010. Also revised chapters 11 [PDF: 81kb - new window] & 16 [PDF: 35kb - new window] as approved by Yearly Meeting 30 July-6 August 2011
Yearly Meeting 2013 is being asked to approve changes to Quaker faith & practice chapter 8 (the centrally managed work of Britain Yearly Meeting) and section 6.28 from the chapter on Yearly Meeting. It is helpful if Friends and Meetings can read the proposed changes in advance of Yearly Meeting and raise any comments with the Recording Clerk at Friends House (by post or by email on firstname.lastname@example.org). It should b e realised that matters of format and printing style will follow the published book, and need not be commented on at this stage. Chapters 6 and 8 are available here [PDF: 338kb - new window].
It may also be helpful to read the proposed changes in conjunction with the revised chapters 6 (Yearly Meeting) and 7 (Meeting for Sufferings) as agreed by Yearly Meeting in 2012. The three chapter, 6, 7 and 8 are designed to be read together and follow one another through. Revised chapters 6 and 7 are not yet in print but can be found on this website. A new printed edition of Quaker faith & practice is scheduled for publication following Yearly Meeting this year.
