Advice to registering officers and area meetings
The registering officer is advised to meet with the applicants at a very early stage, preferably before they complete the marriage forms, so that the Quaker testimony on marriage may be talked over, to ensure that the applicants understand the nature of Quaker worship, our testimony to simplicity and the avoidance of ostentation, and are ready to make their declarations in the form required. The registering officer may find it an advantage to draw one or more other Friends into these conversations, or use a meeting for clearness (16.19-16.21). It is the duty of the registering officer to forward an application for a marriage to the meeting for church affairs which is responsible for appointing a meeting for worship for this purpose (16.27-16.31).
